Coal and Collieries, And Mining.

This page is dedicated to coal mining and the folk who have worked and still work in the industry, mainly the UK coal industry.

The original aim of this site was to provide information on Clifton and Cotgrave Collieries, plus my experiences. But since Terry Blythe passed on and his site went down I decided to host his old site here in a "subsite". If site space permits, I'd like to start working on the other coalfields and their collieries throughout the UK. Anyone who worked in the industry, has links to it, photos and information on the pits in those areas, please contact me, I need as much help as possible!

It's the 25th anniversary of the big strike this year! How time flies, how about letting me know what your role was and what your story is?

The original aim

My thanks to Paul Nix who sent me old photos of Clifton Colliery and to Graham Jones, and John Flinders, who worked with me at Clifton for their help in reminding me of the names of the electrical staff plus some funny incidents.

My name is John Waudby, I spent most of my working life in underground mines, mostly coal but I did work in a couple of hard rock mines. I served my apprenticeship as an electrician with the now defunct National Coal Board at Clifton and Cotgrave Collieries in Nottinghamshire U/K. The old East Midlands Division. South Nott's No6 Area of  the NCB.

Please be patient, many pages are still empty and local file links don't work yet. This is an ongoing project with tons of new material and photos to add over the next few months and I have to fit my time in between other things. I'm short of information on some of the collieries posted in the Terry Blythe section, if anyone has information on those collieries, please contact me.
